Day of Blowing
“In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder of blowing (“teruah”), a holy convocation.” – Lev 23:24-25
“Teruah” is a specific type of blowing. It is the blowing of nine short blasts!!!!!!!!! It’s the sound that calls WAR. The day of blowing is an appointed time to blow (“teruah”) before the LORD. It’s the alarm sound. “When you go to war in your land against the adversary who attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD you God and be saved from your enemies.” Num 10:9
The word “Teruah” also means to shout a BATTLE cry – shouting a war cry! A war cry in Scripture was spoken every time the ark set out. Moses said, “Kuma YHVH, Let Your enemies be scattered”. It’s about each one shouting (“teruah”) to the LORD and crying out to Him with their voices “Arise, O LORD… Kuma YHVH”. “Rise up, O LORD! And let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You” Numbers 10:35.
“Teruah” comes from the root word “ruah” which also means to shout out a WAR cry. “All the people shall shout with a great shout (“teruah” war cry) and the walls of the city shall fall down flat…Shout (“ruah”) for the LORD has given you the city… so the people shouted (“ruah”) when the priest blew with the trumpet…the people shouted with a great shout (“teruah” battle cry), then the wall fell down flat…and they took the city” Joshua 6:5,16,20.
“The LORD shall go forth like a warrior. He shall stir up jealousy like a man of war. He shall cry (“ruah”), yea, roar; He shall prevail against His enemies” Isaiah 42:13. Notice that His people are to cry out the war cry unto Him (Ps.47:1), Israel shouts out the war cry to God (Zep 3:14) and the earth shouts out to God with the battle cry (Isa 44:23). And God Himself will cry out the war cry (Isa 42:13).
O clap your hands all you people. Shout (“ruah”) unto God with the voice of triumph” Ps 47:1
Sing O ye heavens; for the LORD has done it; Shout (“ruah”) ye lower parts of the earth, break forth into singing, ye mountains, forest and every tree therein; for the LORD has redeemed Jacob and glorified Himself in Israel” Isa 44:23
Sing, O daughter of Zion; Shout (“ruah”) O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has turned aside your judgments. He has faced your enemy. The Sovereign of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst…He is mighty to save. He rejoices over you with joy…He rejoices over you with singing” Zep 3:14,17.
It is also interesting to note the timing of the “Day of Blowing”. God set this specific day at the beginning of the first of the seventh month when the first sliver of the new moon can be seen in the sky. “In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder of blowing (“teruah”), a holy convocation.” You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD” Lev 23:24. In waiting and looking for the new moon, no man knows the exact day or hour. There are several dark days in the heavens before the day the new moon sliver is seen. It is a time when “the season” is known because there or either 29 or 30 days in each biblical month…but no man knows “the exact hour”. It is important to be ready!!! The minute that first sliver of the new moon is seen, the “Day of Blowing” begins! There’s no time to go back and get ready…that’s why we must be ready…the time is at hand.
Psalm 81:3 “Sing for joy to God our strength. Shout joyfully (“ruah”) to the God of Jacob. Blow the shofar at the new moon”
Just like the “virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom…and five were prudent…the trident took oil in their flasks along with their lamps…for you do not know the day nor the hour” Matt 25.
God says the “Day of Blowing” is a no work day. “In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder of blowing (“teruah”), a holy convocation.” You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD” Lev.23:24-25. Because the “Day of Blowing” is a no work day, it’s not a day to go make oil. All stores would be closed… no money exchanges take place. It’s a day when everything must be prepared ahead of time. Preparing ahead of time is essential!
O clap your hands all you people. Shout (ruah) unto God with the voice of triumph” Ps 47:1.
Sing for joy to God our strength. Shout joyfully (ruah) to the God of Jacob. Blow the shofar at the new moon!” Psalm 81:1-3
Near is the great day of the LORD; near and coming quickly… a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress… destruction and desolation… darkness and gloom… clouds and thick darkness… a day of trumpet and battle cry (“teruah”)” Zep.1:16
Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound (war cry “ruah”). They shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Thy countenance” Psalm 89:15
Draw up your battle lines against Babylon on every side. All who bend the bow…do not be sparing with arrows, for she has sinned against YHVH. Raise your battle cry (“ruah”) against her on every side… Her walls have been torn down. For this is the vengeance of YHVH. Take vengeance on her as she has done to others, so do to her” Jer.50:14-15
My prayer: LORD, raise up 10,000 warriors… voluntary warriors (Judges 4-5). Call them from the north, south, east and west. It’s a life and death battle! Raise up warriors who trust in You… those who will call out to You with the battle cry in their voices and blow the alarm for You to “Arise and let Your enemies be scattered” Num 10:35. So Your people can “Reign in the midst of Your enemies. Your people who volunteer freely” Psalm 110:3.
